Monterey Bay was the Inspiration for this Custom Sidelight with Etched Glass Marine Life
Art Glass and Metal Studios recently completed a stunning etched glass panel for a private residence in Sunnyvale, located in the San Francisco Bay Area. The piece, which has transformed the entryway courtyard into a breathtaking artstic display, capturing the vibrant and diverse marine life of the nearby Monterey Bay. The unique commission was specially requested by a local marine biologist whose expertise lies in the study of nudibranchs, adding a deeply personal touch to the artwork.
The intricate design of the etched glass panel features a mesmerizing depiction of the underwater world. Central to the composition is a gracefully floating jellyfish, its tentacles flowing with the almost lifelike movement. Accompanying the jellyfish is a prickleback fish, rendered with meticulous attention to detail, highlighting the fish’s distinctive spines and elegant form. Scattered throughout the design are several hidden nudibranchs, a subtle nod to the client’s specialization and passion. These sea slugs, know for their vibrant colors and unique shapes, add an element of surprise and delight for those who take the time to discover them.
