I was recently commissioned to design and create this etched glass window with fantail fish, lotus flowers, and lily pads for a beachside residence in the picturesque southern Orange County seaside town of Laguna Beach, California.
The design utilizes etched glass in a circular panel on dark smoke gray glass, and the window is 3 1/2 feet in diameter.
The etched details of the fantail fish were a particular challenge. I drew on my decades of experience working with glass to create just the right shading, and this gave these beautiful fish the impression of depth and ephemeral realism that I was after. The lotus flowers and shoreline in the background provide a stylized backdrop that completes the scene, and the home owners love the end result.
