The manufacturing and design process for architectural glass components often varies from piece to piece, but always keeping in mind the core steps required to create an artwork that is not only visually stunning, but structurally sound. A well made work of glass art will stand the test of time when exposed to the elements, and the time and expense invested will pay off for years or even decades, creating a timeless and long-lasting impression.

This Etched Glass Seahorse Makes Showers a Dreamy Experience
This client wanted an etched seahorse themed panel for a shower stall. I was given some leeway in the design, so I came up with a stylized kelp design background to flow with the seahorse.

Hand Made Cast Glass Surfboard Wall Art Custom Designed and Produced by Jay Hoyt Curtis
I made this solid 1-1/2” thick glass surfboard for a niche space in a California beach home. The board is 20 inches wide at the waist and 7’ 8” long. It is a big wave gun shape, typically used in the bigger waves at places like the north shore of Hawaii and Mavericks in northern California.

Huge Black Glass Photo Etching by Art Glass and Metal
I created this custom large format photo etching on black glass for a casino. The actual etched glass piece is four feet tall by fourteen feet long.
The piece is supported by 12 stainless steel standoff bases that float the glass 2-1/2 inches off of the wall behind it, with the wood frame bracketing the piece. It is by far the largest photo etching I have ever done, and the largest I have seen in general.

This Shower Enclosure with Tree Branch Was a Simple Yet Challenging Project
This custom etched glass shower stall was a challenge to create something with an eye catching natural allure for a space that was predominately full of right angles. It had to complement the existing setting without looking out of place, so for this reason I chose a simple tree branch motif that would not overpower the otherwise simple yet elegant design of this bathroom.

Custom Designed Courtyard Gate with a Cast Glass Ocean Wave Theme
I designed and created this cast glass courtyard gate with a breaking ocean wave motif for a private residence in San Diego. It measures 95” x 47” and has a locking mechanism for security, and it functions as a gate or door leading into an entryway courtyard. The ocean themed art is an homage to San Diego's picturesque coastal scenery.

Water Jet Cut Metal Sakura Tree Sculpture by Art Glass and Metal Studio
I was commissioned to create a sculpture of a Japanese cherry tree (Sakura tree) to hang in the courtyard of a beautiful Spanish home in the Mission Hills area of San Diego.

This waterjet cut metal wall sculpture will be 80 inches tall by 60 inches wide, and will stand off of the wall by two inches.

Cast Glass wall sculptural piece titled “Sea Kelp Window with Bubbles”
This sea kelp window is not really a window but rather a purely sculptural piece just for art's sake. It is inset into the wall of a stairwell, and is seen as you walk down the flights of stairs between floors of the residence.
